Kennedy Space Center/ KOA Camping Trip
The most perfect weekend vacation that I have ever taken was to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. My husband, mom, brother, and I went camping in the Titusville area at a KOA campsite and went to see some of the sites in the area while we were there.
While at the KOA site, we stayed in a lodge style cabin that had a kitchen and a couple of bedrooms in it. Now that may not sound much like camping, but we had a lot of time to bond and really get to know each other over that weekend. Since there was no pit to have a campfire, we put some wood in the grill and cooked marshmallows over that. The rest of the camp was even very nice. There was a pool that was almost bathwater warm and it was almost never crowded. There was also a very nice area to play horseshoes and shuffleboard set up. The camp store was well supplied with anything you would need to make the weekend fun for everyone, and the staff was very courteous and helpful.
The camping was memorable enough, but to top it off, we went to Kennedy Space Center as well! When we got there, it was very early still and the lines weren't long at all to get the tickets. The place itself was absolutely amazing. There is a rocket garden that is home to many of the decommissioned shuttles and rockets. You can get into a couple of parts and see what it feels like to be ready for take off! There is also a simulator in the park to show you exactly what it feels like to blast off into space. Kennedy space center also has a very large gift shop. It is 2 stories of space and NASA related items. You can get anything ranging from traditional souvenirs to freeze dried food and mock uniforms. There is an IMAX theater in the park as well. It gives people an opportunity to watch very high quality 3D movies that can teach you a lot about the space program and what is going on above us right now.
Between the Kennedy Space Center, beaches, and the camping trip, Titusville is an amazing place to go and spend a weekend with the family. It has so many things to do and so much going on that it is impossible to not enjoy yourself. |
