I would love to take a weekend and road trip to Cape Canaveral FL. Oh wait, I have, and this is my experience!
Take 95 south. I love stopping in Brunswick GA for supper at SonnyGÇÖs BBQ on the way down. Camping is my choice and I like to stay at Mantee Hammock State Park in Titusville, FL. Once you road trip down and get there it will be late and you will have to set up tents in the dark or have a camper. The key is to get there before they close the gate to the park! The next morning when you wake up and look across the water you will wake up to the view of the Vehicle assembly building of NASA.
Next spend the day at NASA. One of the things that I have never done is take a behind the scenes tour. If you really want to see everything at NASA you have to spend a few days. I have spend two full days there and I have yet to see everything that there is to see. I would camp and spend as many days as you can.
The key to road tripping to Cape Canaveral and NASA is to plan a launch. There are a few more shuttle launches and then they will be gone. After that though they will still be launching rockets and that is an incredible sight to see! |
